Hereford flat fire: Arson suspected
A fire at a flat in Herefordshire where two people had to be rescued is being treated as suspected arson by police.
The fire happened at St Michaels Court, in the Belmont area of Hereford, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Firefighters rescued a man and a woman from a bedroom in the first floor flat and they were treated at hospital for the effects of smoke inhalation.
A man in his 20s was arrested on Thursday and is currently in custody being questioned by detectives.
Det Insp Martyn Barnes said: "Thankfully the couple in the flat escaped without serious injury, but this was a bad fire and the consequences could very easily have been far worse.
"We are conducting forensic tests and house-to-house inquiries in the area and I would like to appeal for anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Michaels Court area to contact Hereford CID."
