Herefordshire road workers' safety campaign

A campaign urging drivers to stop when temporary traffic signals are red, to improve safety for road workers, is being launched in Herefordshire.

The initiative involves Herefordshire Council, the police and Amey, which carries out highways maintenance.

There were 20 incidents in the last year of drivers in the county ignoring boards or temporary lights and a worker was nearly injured, Amey said.

"Stop! for our road workers" campaign posters will be seen on buildings.

The campaign uses pictures of family members to illustrate that injuring road workers also affects their families.

Working on behalf of the council, Amey undertakes a range of work using stop/go boards and temporary lights to control traffic.

Posters will also be visible on Amey vehicles.
