Ban for throwing cat from Hatfield home window
A man from Herefordshire who killed his neighbour's cat by throwing it out of a window has been banned from keeping a pet for five years.
Guy Phillips, 43, from Hatfield, near Leominster, dropped the cat out of his first-floor home after it brushed past his leg, the RSPCA said.
The animal died of injuries consistent with hitting the ground with considerable force, it added.
Magistrates in Hereford also gave him a two-year community order.
He was also ordered to do 250 hours of unpaid work.
RSPCA Chief Inspector Dave Hollinshead said the cat was found in the property of Mr Phillips.
Mr Hollinshead said: "He alleges that he grabbed the cat and opened a window to throw the cat out of the window... thinking it was a first floor it would be okay."
The inspector said after the hearing he was pleased with the sentence.
"The sentence is severe and shows how bad the magistrates thought it was," he added.
