Hereford man jailed for bottle attack on soldier
A Hereford man has been jailed for seven years for attacking a soldier in a nightclub with a glass cider bottle.
Scott Spiers, 25, of Richmond Street, was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court after pleading guilty to stabbing Thomas Haynes in Play nightclub.
Mr Haynes suffered permanent facial disfigurement, nerve and muscle damage in the attack in June.
Det Con Darren Ball from West Mercia Police said: "This was a nasty attack on a man who serves his country."
The police said Mr Haynes, who was serving in the Army at the time, was scarred for life with a gash from his temple to his jawline.
Spiers, who had a community order for a previous assault, had been remanded in custody since he was charged in June.
