Cheltenham Town's Marcus Powell killed while jogging

A young footballer from Hereford has died after being hit by a car while out jogging in Herefordshire on Sunday.

Marcus Powell, 16, was airlifted to hospital in Birmingham after being struck by a BMW X5 at 17:25 GMT on the B4349 between Clehonger and Kingstone.

The teenager, who plays for Cheltenham Town's Under-16s team, received serious head injuries and died on Monday.

A statement from the football club said its thoughts were with Marcus' family and friends at this difficult time.

In a mark of respect, Cheltenham Town has cancelled games this weekend for the U9-U16s teams and also cancelled youth training sessions on Monday and Friday.

A police spokesman said officers were continuing to investigate the details of the collision and he appealed for any witnesses to get in touch.
