Tributes have been paid to a Herefordshire teenager who died after being struck by a car.

Marcus Powell, 16, was airlifted to a Birmingham hospital after being hit by a BMW between Clehonger and Kingstone when he was jogging.

The Kingstone School student, who played for Cheltenham Town Under 16s and Hereford Under 18s, received serious injuries and died on Monday.

His family have described him as a confident and promising footballer.

'Comforting' words

They said that before his death he was "extremely happy: his last Facebook status was 'My life can't get any better'".

"Marcus was so bright, so vibrant, he didn't have a bad bone in his body."

The family said more than 700 messages have been left on Marcus's facebook page.

"It is comforting to know so many people thought so highly of Marcus, we'd like to thank everyone for their kind words," the family said.

A special tribute for Marcus was held at Kingstone School on Monday evening where flowers were laid, fireworks let off and lanterns lit.

Marcus had a six-year-old sister and two brothers, aged eight and 18.
