Worcestershire charity shop forced to close after arson

A charity shop in Worcestershire has been forced to close after an arson attack.

West Mercia Police said a wheelie bin was set on fire at the rear of the ExtraCare Charitable Trust shop on Mill Lane, in Bromsgrove, in the early hours of Saturday.

The fire spread to a flat roof and the building was filled with smoke.

Alison Whittingham, from the charity, said: "It's a huge loss to a lot of people in the Bromsgrove community."

She said the shop would be closed "for the foreseeable future".

The charity raises money to provide retirement villages and smaller housing developments for elderly people.

PC Kerrie Mimnagh said: "We are eager to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in this area early on Saturday morning."
