Man questioned over Worcester fatal flat fire
A man in his 20s has been arrested over a fire at a flat in Worcester in which one person died.
West Mercia Police are questioning the man at Worcester police station after detaining him in the West Midlands.
Police have also named the person who died, who they believe is 52-year-old Andrew Heath.
More than 40 police officers were involved in the investigation over the fire at Chedworth Close that broke out early on Wednesday morning.
Police believe the fire was started deliberately and it is being treated as arson.
On Wednesday, officers had been unable to confirm if the person killed in the fire was male or female because of the severity of the blaze.
Det Ch Insp Paul Williamson said: "Our inquiries lead us to believe the person found dead at the flat is Mr Heath however the body has yet to be formally identified, which could take some days.
"I have a large team of detectives working on this investigation and as we piece together what has happened, we need to know as much as possible about Mr Heath and his life."
Mr Williamson said officers are working alongside specialist investigators from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.
He said: "I would like to repeat our appeal for any witnesses to the incident to come forward - anyone who may have seen the fire take hold or who saw suspicious activity or people in or around the Chedworth Drive area in the early hours of Wednesday morning."
