Man dies after falling into River Severn in Bewdley

A man has died after falling into the River Severn in Worcestershire.

West Mercia Police said it was called to the Northwood Lane area of Bewdley at about 06:50 GMT following reports that a man had fallen into the river.

A man was found in the water downstream following a search involving the police, fire service and Severn Area Rescue Association.

He was taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital at Worcester but was confirmed dead just before 10:30 GMT.

Det Insp Dean Jones of West Mercia Police said: "The death is being treated as unexplained at this time.

"We are keen to speak to any witnesses who saw any people on the Wribbenhall side of the river in the Northwood Lane area, either near Northwood Farm, where the man was reported to have gone into the river, or some distance downstream near the play area, where he was found."
