Shropshire snow predictions puts gritters on alert

Shropshire could face up to up to 5cm (2in) of snow according to the Met Office which has issued a yellow weather warning for wintry weather.

Forecasters said it is not certain where the heaviest snow will fall in central England.

Shropshire council has joined with other Midlands authorities to provide updates of which roads have been gritted on its website.

Telford and Wrekin Council said its gritters would be working overnight.

Katy Jenkins, from the Safer Roads Partnership, said: "Motorists will need to take extra care if weather and road conditions deteriorate over the next 48 hours.

"Vehicle handling can change considerably, regardless of the type of vehicle."
