Whittington roundabout £1.3m scheme begins

Work has begun on a £1.3m scheme to ease traffic congestion at a "key gateway" in Worcestershire.

Whittington roundabout in Worcester links the A4440 Crookbarrow Way, A44 and Whittington village near junction 7 of the M5 and is known for delays.

A 30mph speed limit is in place while two new slip roads are created. Work is expected to last until the summer

A county council spokesman said every effort would be made to keep delays "to a minimum".

Peter Blake, from Worcestershire County Council, said: "Clearly it's a congestion hotspot within the county and what we're trying to do is ease the flow of traffic and improve journey times through that junction.

"Essentially we're going to be creating two main slip lanes.

"One down the hill from the motorway down towards the southern link road and one coming the other way up the hill that will pull in towards Worcester."
