Man seriously hurt in Redditch shooting

A man in his 30s was shot in the chest and arm after an argument broke out near a snack bar, police said.

The man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the shooting in Nailsworth Road, Redditch.

The shooting, reported about 11:50 BST, followed "some sort of altercation", a spokesman added. The man's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

West Mercia Police are trying to find a man reported to have left the scene and the firearm that was used.

'Isolated incident'

Det Insp Leighton Harding said: "The investigation into this incident is at an early stage but a significant number of officers are involved.

"Our priority at the moment is to locate the man that left the scene and once we have done this we will share that information with the public.

"In addition, finding the firearm discharged in this incident is also a priority.

"It goes without saying that this type of situation is very unusual in Redditch but I would like to reassure local people that it does appear to be an isolated incident and that we believe the two men involved were known to each other."

A police cordon is in place around the scene as the investigations continue.

Anyone with information about the incident was urged to call police.
