Kidderminster leisure centre plans revealed

Plans to build a £10m new leisure centre on a former sports ground in Kidderminster have been released by the local authority.

The Spennells Valley Road site is expected to replace The Glades leisure centre, which opened in 1986.

In February, Wyre Forest District Council warned that refurbishing The Glades could cost £12m.

A public consultation is due to start about the proposed site, formerly a sports field owned by Victoria Carpets.

The centre is expected to include a six-court sports hall, a 25-metre pool, a fitness suite and outdoor five-a-side football pitches.

Councillor Ian Hardiman, responsible for community wellbeing, said the site was ideally located, with good access by car and public transport.

He said a planning application was expected to be submitted later in the year before starting the search for a partner to design, build and operate the new centre.
