A new £2.8m youth centre has been officially opened in Oswestry.

The centre has a recording studio, cafe and a large hall for skateboarding and activities like dance and drama.

It replaces the old youth centre building in Oak Street and has been paid for with money from the Big Lottery Fund.

Vince Hunt, from Shropshire council, who opened the centre, said: "This is fantastic because it gives young people in Oswestry a place of their own."

A group of young people helped with the design and plans for how the centre would be used.

They held weekly meetings at the Marches School to discuss plans.

Fourteen-year-old Megan Elliot, who was part of the group said she could not wait to see "everybody in and using it".

"People that have come to the centre that didn't know anything about it have been really impressed, and I'm glad to have played a part in that," she said.
