Three arrests for attempted murder of policemen in Kidderminster

Three men have been arrested for attempted murder after a car was driven at a police van, injuring two officers.

They were investigating a report of three men acting suspiciously in an alleyway near Stoney Lane in Kidderminster at about 09:30 BST.

An Audi car reversed into their police van, pinning one officer between the two vehicles, West Mercia Police said.

The driver of the police van suffered cuts and bruises but both have been released from hospital.

'Extremely lucky'

Three men from Wolverhampton, aged in their 20s, have been arrested for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit robbery, police said.

Two were taken to Kidderminster police station, while a third man, believed to be the driver of the car, was treated in hospital for a head injury and chest pain.

Holy Trinity School in Birmingham Road was closed as a precaution, although police said no staff or children were at risk.

Supt Kevin Purcell said: "The officers were extremely lucky not to have been more seriously injured.

"A large number of people saw police activity in Kidderminster, and we hope the fact that three suspects were quickly arrested will reassure them."
