Kidderminster leisure centre: Work begins on £11.9m complex
Work has begun to build a new £11.9m leisure centre on the site of a former sugar refinery in Worcestershire.
The former British Sugar site at Silverwoods in Kidderminster is being levelled to allow construction work to begin.
The centre will be built and managed by a social enterprise company who will reinvest their profits back into the business or the local community, Wyre Forest District Council said.
It is expected to open in summer 2016.
Sport England gave a grant of £2m towards the cost of the project.
The current leisure centres will be operating as normal until the new complex opens, the council said.
