Building starts on council homes in Hull

Work has started on the first council houses to be built in Hull since 1993.

Construction has started on the first 18 houses and bungalows of a 38-home development at Newington St. Andrew's, which will be available to rent.

Hull City Council said it was using a grant of £3.3m from the Homes and Communities Agency to build the properties to regenerate certain areas.

The grant will also be used to build 19 council properties at Lingdale Road and Preston Road in east Hull.

The houses are part of 345 new homes which will be built in cities and towns across Yorkshire and the Humber.
