Woman hurt in East Yorkshire HGV crash dies in hospital

A woman critically injured when her car was sandwiched between a lorry and another car in East Yorkshire has died in hospital.

Julie Watson, 41, from North Ferriby, was injured in the crash at the junction of the A164 and A1079 on the outskirts of Beverley on Monday.

Humberside Police said she was taken to Hull Royal Infirmary but died.

The lorry driver, a 56-year-old North Yorkshire man, was arrested and released on bail.

Police said Ms Watson, who was driving a VW Beetle, was waiting behind a Vauxhall Astra at traffic lights when the lorry ran into the back of her vehicle.

The Astra driver, a 32-year-old man from Messingham near Scunthorpe, suffered whiplash injuries but the lorry driver was unhurt.

Police have made an appeal for witnesses.

Insp Mark Hughes, from the roads policing team, said: "We desperately need to trace witnesses to this collision which happened at rush hour on a very busy stretch of road."
