North Lincolnshire council offers electric blanket check

People in North Lincolnshire are being urged to take advantage of free electric blanket safety checks.

Statistics show that 5,000 fires a year are caused by faulty electric blankets, with some resulting in death.

North Lincolnshire Council said trading standards officers carried out the checks every year and drop-in sessions would be held in September.

The council said previous faults included a lack of overheat protection and wiring within the blanket.

Councillor Nigel Sherwood, cabinet member for highways and neighbourhoods, said: "It is very important to have your electric blankets checked and I would recommend that you go to one of the venues around North Lincolnshire to have a free test carried out."
