Doorstep scam warning in North East Lincolnshire

Residents in North East Lincolnshire have been reminded to be wary of uninvited traders after an elderly woman was conned out of £1,500.

The trading standards team are providing help and advice to the victim, who had paid the money for roofing work.

In particular, elderly residents carrying out gardening work are warned to be wary of opportunistic traders.

Officers advise obtaining three written quotes for any work to be carried out.

North East Lincolnshire councillor, David Bolton, said: "Sadly there are people in our society who have no scruples when it comes to ripping people off.

"Don't think yourself rude for turning away an uninvited caller.

"It's your home, and you have the right to choose who does your maintenance work for you."
