Superior Seafoods closure hits Grimsby jobs
A Grimsby fish processing business employing more than 60 people has closed down.
Superior Seafoods ceased trading on Wednesday and all of its employees are now out of work, the Grimsby Fish Merchants Association has confirmed.
The family-run firm had been trading in the town for 40 years.
The association chairman, Chris Sparkes, said: "I asked the [owners] what the on-going plans are and they said they won't know until next week."
He added: "Whether it would be taken on as an on-going business or not, I've no idea.
"The staff are laid off with immediate effect."
Mr Sparkes said the local fishing industry is "shocked and surprised" by the firm's closure.
He said: "For me personally, it's a very sad day. I worked for them in 1971 and to see their business demise is terribly sad."
