Swift Caravans, based in Cottingham, has announced up to 90 redundancies, although the company said it was "hoping it won't be that many".

The company, which is the UK's biggest maker of caravans and motor homes, has blamed the economic downturn.

The firm employs around 900 staff at its newly expanded factory.

The company said it is looking for voluntary redundancies as it slows down caravan manufacture between now and the start of 2012.

Swift laid off over 300 workers in the autumn of 2008, but following an increase in sales the company re-hired 200 staff last year.
