Police in Hull reopen case into 1984 sex attack on girl, 10
Detectives in Hull are re-investigating a serious sexual assault that happened in 1984 after new DNA evidence was obtained.
The attack on a 10-year-old girl took place on a disused railway line at the rear of Bilsdale Grove in east Hull.
Recent forensic work on samples retained from the assault has produced a DNA profile of the attacker.
The case is being handled by officers from Operation Fox, the force's cold case review of serious sexual offences.
Threat to kill
The victim was walking home from a friend's house after school on the day of the attack, on 2 April 1984.
She was approached by a man who dragged her into some bushes and threatened to kill her before carrying out the assault.
Det Supt Dena Fleming, who is heading the investigation, said: "Although this offence happened almost three decades ago, it remains as horrific today as it was at the time it happened to the victim.
"I firmly believe that the attacker was local and is possibly still living in the area and I will do everything in my power to track him down and bring him to justice."
