McCain Foods to axe 50 Hull factory production jobs
Up to 50 jobs are to be axed at a frozen foods factory in Hull.
McCain Foods is proposing to change production shift patterns to "ensure long-term viability" of the site.
It employs 127 staff producing breaded and fried finger foods such as onion rings at its factory on the Brighton Street Industrial Estate.
McCain said it had "embarked on a period of growth and needs to do that on the foundation of maximum efficiency and cost competitiveness".
Management had met staff and were preparing to begin consultations. The exact number of job losses was not yet known but would be clarified following the consultation period, the company said.
In a statement, McCain said it would seek to "minimise impact through initiatives such as voluntary redundancy, re-training and career assistance".
"We fully appreciate that the uncertainty caused by this proposal will be unsettling for those potentially affected, so our focus is on open communication."
