Tributes have been paid by the families of two men who were killed when their car was hit by a train on a level crossing near Grimsby.

The family of Paul Hodge, 47, from Grimsby, who was driving the car, described him as a "loving father".

The fiancee of his passenger David Williams, 40, from Cleethorpes, said he was "her rock".

Police believe the crossing barriers were working correctly and are treating Tuesday's crash as an accident.

The crash happened at about 19:40 BST at the automated half-barrier crossing on Woad Lane in Great Coates, North East Lincolnshire.

'Gorgeous partner'

In the statement, Mr Hodge's family said: "Paul was a loving father, grandfather, son and brother and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

"This has come with tragic and devastating shock to all of his family and friends."

Mr Williams' fiancee Carolyn Woodward said: "I am so devastated at the loss of my most gorgeous partner Dave.

"He was my rock, my best friend, the most caring man I have ever known. He loved family life and was devoted to the grandchildren.

"We only moved to the area last January from Blackpool and Dave loved it here.

"He enjoyed working at the Immingham Docks and made a lot of very special friends. He was a very friendly person, everyone loved Dave.

"We thought we would have a lot more years together."
