£5m Grimsby Cartergate office and retail plan approved
Plans to build a multi-million pound office and retail development on a town centre site in Grimsby have been approved by councillors.
The £5.1m development will be built in Cartergate on brownfield land owned by North East Lincolnshire Council.
A new headquarters of Grimsby law firm Wilkin Chapman Grange is expected to be based on the site and will employ about 200 people.
The ground floor will be given over to retail premises, the council said.
The remaining land on the site is expected to be sold for use as a hotel or a "suitable alternative development", according to the council.
The plans were approved at a meeting of North East Lincolnshire Council's cabinet.
Last week, the Labour-run authority also approved the transfer of the town's former bus station site, which adjoins Cartergate, to property investor F&C REIT.
The company said it intended to use the land to expand its Freshney Place shopping centre with a £12m 10-screen cinema and restaurants.
Council leader Chris Shaw said the combination of these two plans was evidence of "extensive planned investment" which would "transform" Grimsby town centre.
The Cartergate development is expected to get the final go-ahead, subject to the formal planning process, the council said.
