Melton shooting: Man charged with murder

A 54-year-old has been charged with murder after a man was shot dead in an East Yorkshire village.

Jonathan Smith, 38, from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, died from gunshot wounds at a bungalow on Melton Old Road in Melton, near Hull, on Tuesday.

Peter Guy, of Melton Old Road, Melton, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before magistrates in Beverley on Saturday morning.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with assault.

A 34-year-old man, who was arrested in connection with the incident, has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Humberside Police said its officers were still at the scene.

Det Ch Insp Wendy North said: "We are grateful to the local community for their help during our initial investigations and acknowledge the disruption such a police presence has brought to the village following this tragic incident."
