Cleethorpes pool finally open after floor issues
A swimming pool which needed two new floor surfaces following a £2.5m refurbishment in February has reopened.
Cleethorpes pool was closed while a new tiled floor was laid to replace a "slippery" resin-coated surface, which had only been in place for two months.
North East Lincolnshire Council said "a thorough, independent test" had been carried out and the floor was "much more suitable".
The council said "negotiations were continuing" over the cost.
The pool at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre opened in February after a five-month project to upgrade the pool and changing facilities.
But it was closed just one week later after a number of pool users slipped on the poolside flooring.
The authority said tests on the flooring had "revealed that excessive resin used to seal the flooring reduced its slip resistance" and the pool remained closed for five weeks while a new floor of the same type was installed.
Staff and users remained unhappy with the surface and it closed again in June.
Councillor Mick Burnett said: "We fully empathise with our swimming customers who have experienced many months of disruption with very little access following the reopening of the pool in February."
A spokesman added: "Negotiations are continuing between various parties to resolve how the floor at Cleethorpes Leisure Centre is funded at no additional cost to the council."
