Work on extending a leisure centre in Hull is to begin in October, the council has confirmed.

The £6m project at Woodford Leisure Centre, approved last year, includes a six-lane swimming pool, changing facilities and a sauna.

The plans are going ahead despite the Labour-run council saying in July it needed to find £30m in savings by 2020.

The council said the installation of new technology would reduce running costs.

The centre will close to the public on 30 September with work on the extension due to be completed by early 2018.
