Chemical spill shuts road in Thanet

Part of a dual carriageway in east Kent had to be closed to traffic for several hours following a chemical spill.

Kent Police said a lorry spilt its load on the A299 Thanet Way near St Nicholas-at-Wade at 0945 BST.

The London-bound carriageway was closed following the incident to allow Kent Fire and Rescue Service to clear the chemicals from the road.

Traffic had to be diverted on to the A28 and A256, causing long delays for motorists in the area.
