Man killed as cars crash in Hamstreet

One driver died and another was critically injured in a collision involving two cars between Hamstreet and Ashford in Kent.

Kent Police said a Vauxhall Astra and a Citroen Saxo were involved in the crash on Hamstreet bypass at 1935 BST on Monday.

The driver of the Astra, a 42 year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Saxo was taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford with life-threatening injuries.

A spokesman for Kent Police said his condition was critical but stable.

The passenger, a 19 year-old woman, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A spokesman said the A2070 was closed overnight but was expected to reopen soon.
