Alert after yacht runs aground off Kent

Coastguards have been called to a yacht with five people on board that has run aground on the Goodwin Sands off Kent.

Dover Coastguard and lifeboats went to the aid of the vessel after receiving an emergency call on Sunday afternoon.

The coastguard said there was a risk the boat may break up in stormy weather and an RAF helicopter had been called to airlift people to safety.

The Goodwin Sands, near Deal, are sandbanks which are constantly altering and are covered at high tide.
