Drain covers stolen from two roads in Herne Bay

Eighteen cast iron drain covers have been stolen from two roads in Herne Bay, Kent.

Fourteen were taken from Owls Hatch Road and four from Mole Hill Road, along with a pavement drain cover.

Police said temporary covers had been put in place to cover the drains and reduce the risk of injury.

They said they believed they were stolen for their scrap metal value. The theft of lead from homes in nearby Hersden is also being investigated.

Thieves targeted older properties in the village, taking lead from above front doors.
