The Kent Miners Festival takes place on Aylesham village green on Monday 29 August between 10am and 7pm, with brass bands, fairground rides, face painting, and boxing matches.

  • Catering for Kent is running cooking classes for children in August and September in Ashford.
  • The RSPB has set up a viewing gallery at Leeds Castle so that visitors can see the young swans, duck, moorhens and grebes learn to fend for themselves. Staff and volunteers will be there every day between 10.30am and 4.30pm with telescopes and binoculars to use free of charge until Sunday 4 September.

  • Beach safety and rookie lifeguarding training at Joss Bay Surf School teaches children to acknowledge the importance of their local beach environment and how to enjoy the sea safely and responsibly. Every Saturday during the summer.

Arts, nature & history

Blink Margate will transform Margate's seafront from 9.15pm on Saturday 27 August. The event is free with dancing, fireworks and music as 100 local people take to the beach to perform.
