Woman critical after car plunge in Ashford estate pond

A woman is critically ill in hospital after her car came off a Kent road and plunged into a pond.

Two young girls managed to swim to safety after the VW Golf went through a fence into the water and began sinking at Hinxhill Court, Ashford.

Four police officers jumped into the pond to save the 49-year-old at about 1850 BST on Saturday.

She was taken to William Harvey Hospital, where her condition is described as critical.
