A sports pavilion in a village near Ashford in Kent has been destroyed in a fire.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the blaze at Charing Sports Club, in The Moat at 0730 BST on Sunday. Five crews were at the scene.

Sports club spokesman, Paul Newman, said two football teams, a tennis club, bowls club and cricket club used the building in Arthur Baker Field.

Fire investigation officers are looking into the cause of the blaze.

"We have lost a tremendous amount of the heritage of the village and much of the memorabilia of the clubs," said Mr Newman.

"The village will be devastated by this loss."
