Ashford wood yard fire is suspected arson

A fire which caused substantial damage at a wood yard in Kent is being treated as suspected arson, police have said.

About 60 firefighters battled the flames when up to 300 tonnes of wood caught fire at the yard in Woodchurch, Ashford, at 2300 BST on Saturday.

Machinery, buildings and vehicles were also damaged as high winds helped spread the fire.

Kent Police, who are appealing for witnesses, want to trace a man and woman seen in a car in the vicinity.

Officers said the pair may have information that will assist the investigation.

No-one was injured in the incident at the yard, in Bethersden Road.
