Pupil's drama prop gun sparks Surrey armed police alert

A schoolboy carrying a stage-prop gun to a drama lesson sparked an armed alert in Surrey.

Armed police were called to Hanworth Lane, Chertsey, at about 0745 BST following reports that a teenager had a gun in the street.

The Surrey officers were recalled en route when it was discovered the long-barrelled weapon could not be fired.

The force said the youngster was carrying it to school.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said: "Officers spoke with school staff and gave strong words of advice to the boy and the matter has now been closed."
