The victim, who has not been named by police, was assaulted in an apparently unprovoked attack outside Kabuki in Elephant Hill, early on Saturday.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate where he died from his injuries the same day.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at Margate police station and is being questioned.

Det Ch Insp Rob Vinson said: "The victim had been out in Margate with friends on Friday night and was standing outside the Kabuki bar when he was approached by the offender who seriously assaulted him.

"At this stage it seems to have been a completely unprovoked attack."

Mr Vinson said about 30 people were standing outside the club at the time and appealed for them to come forward.
