Ramsgate crack house closed down

A Ramsgate flat that was used as a crack house has been closed down.

Thanet Council and Kent Police acted after receiving complaints about the St Mildred's Road property for the past five months.

A three-month closure order was issued by Canterbury magistrates making it a criminal offence to enter the flat.

Police said that between 10 and 15 people visited the property each day, and fights were a common occurrence both inside and outside the flat.

"Residents would regularly find blood resulting from these fights in the communal areas," Pc Sue Lock said.

"There would be noise from the flat until 3am or 4am every night and people trying to get access to the flat would often press the buzzers to other neighbouring flats at all hours of the day and night."

The flat is owned by Thanet District Council which is now seeking to evict the tenant.
