Folkestone man hit by police car on crossing

A man in his 40s is in hospital with a head injury after being hit by a marked police patrol car on a pedestrian crossing in Kent.

Kent Police said the car was not responding to an emergency call before the incident in Cheriton Road, Folkestone at 1415 BST on Thursday.

The man, from Folkestone, is in a stable condition.

The accident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission as part of normal procedure.

Kent Police serious collision unit is carrying out an investigation.

"The collision occurred along a busy street," said Det Sgt Scott Lynch.

"We are keen to trace and speak with anyone who witnessed the incident as they may have valuable information that could help us with our enquiries."
