Chatham Waterfront Bus Station to 'transform transport'

The opening of a new bus station in Medway next month will transform public transport in the area, the council has pledged.

The Chatham Waterfront Bus Station will open on 10 October, with buses serving 117 destinations across the area.

Medway Council said it would act as a hub for all main bus routes and connect the waterfront with the town centre.

Large screens in the platform waiting areas will tell passengers when their bus is going to depart and where from.

Rodney Chambers, council leader, said: "It is no secret that the old bus station in the Pentagon was out of date, unwelcoming and, to be honest, was not a nice first impression for those arriving in Medway.

"This is a key part of the regeneration of Chatham town centre. It opens up the waterfront and helps with our aim of ensuring the area remains an important shopping destination for people across the region."
