Deal false rape claim woman Rebecca Howard sentenced

A 20-year-old woman who lied to Kent Police about being abducted and raped has been given a suspended sentence.

Rebecca Howard said two men put her in a car and drove her to Walmer where one of them raped her on 6 February.

Channel magistrates sentenced her to 120 days in prison, suspended for 24 months, and 200 hours' unpaid work.

Howard, of Prince of Wales Terrace, Deal, was also given a 12 month supervision order and ordered to pay £1,000 compensation.

She had pleaded guilty to wasting police time at an earlier hearing.

Police said the false allegation caused heightened concern within the Deal community and the investigation involved "considerable" time and resources.
