Kent police officer hurt in Rainham collision

A Kent police officer is being treated for serious injuries in hospital after his patrol car was involved in a crash with another vehicle.

The officer was following a suspected car thief when he was involved in a collision, Kent Police said.

A force spokesman said the incident happened in Deanwood Drive, Rainham, at about 01:15 BST.

A man, 19, has been arrested and is being questioned in custody. Police have appealed for witnesses.

The patrol car had been pursuing a suspect following reports of a vehicle being stolen in Luton Road, Chatham, just after midnight.
