Opium with an estimated street value of £50,000 has been seized during a check on a lorry at Dover.

Officers from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) said they found 3.5kg (7.7lb) of the drug on an Iranian-registered lorry at the Kent town's Eastern Docks.

A 34-year-old Leeds man was arrested and bailed pending further inquiries after the drugs were seized last Wednesday, a UKBA spokesman said.

People have been urged to report any suspected drug smuggling activity.
