Officer left unconscious when hit by car in Southborough

A Kent police officer was left unconscious when he was hit by a car while trying to speak to the driver.

The officer stopped the man, who was about to drive out of Springfield Road into London Road, in Southborough, at about 22:00 GMT on Friday.

The officer then stood in front of the car, which was then driven forward and the officer ended up on the bonnet.

The car drove off towards Tonbridge and the officer was found in the road about 300m away.

He was bruised but otherwise not seriously injured, Kent Police said.

The officer's colleague and a member of the public chased after the car, which was thought to be a 55 number plate silver Vauxhall car, possibly an Astra four-door hatchback.

The driver of the car was described as white, about 5ft 6in tall, in his mid-20s with receding short, black hair.

He was wearing blue jeans and a dark hooded top.

Police are asking for anyone with any information to contact them.
