A man police want to question after an officer was hit by a car in Kent was captured on CCTV cameras in two shops.

The police officer was left unconscious after being hit by the car, in London Road, Southborough, while trying to speak to the driver.

Before the incident, the suspect visited Tesco Metro and a kebab shop, in London Road.

The officer stopped the man, at about 22:00 GMT on Friday, as he was driving out of Springfield Road.

The officer stood in front of the car, before it was driven at him and he ended up on the bonnet.

'Ease conscience'

The car drove off towards Tonbridge and the officer was found in the road about 300m away.

He was bruised but otherwise not seriously injured, Kent Police said.

"I would ask members of the public to study the image captured just a few minutes before the incident occurred," said Insp Justin Watts.

"I would urge anyone who recognises the man to contact us or alternatively the suspect may wish to come forward and ease his conscience."

The car involved is thought to be a 55-plate silver Vauxhall car, possibly an Astra four-door hatchback.

The driver was described as white, about 5ft 6in tall, in his mid-20s with receding short, black hair.

He was wearing blue jeans and a dark hooded top.
