Teenagers quizzed after Lydd man assaulted

A 61-year-old man is being treated for a serious head injury after he was assaulted outside a shop in Kent.

He was walking back to his car after buying a bottle of wine in Coronation Square, Lydd, when he was approached from behind and hit on the head.

Police said he managed to drive back to his home in Lydd and was then taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford where he underwent surgery.

Three teenagers were arrested and bailed following the assault on Sunday.

Police said it was not known what the man was hit with, or the motive for the attack.

His condition in hospital is reported to be stable.
