Michelle Mayes suspended from teaching for misconduct

A teacher at a Kent secondary school has been suspended from the profession for two years for acting inappropriately with students.

Michelle Mayes was found guilty of unacceptable professional conduct at the Weald of Kent Grammar School, in Tonbridge, between 2006 and 2009.

Ms Mayes was employed as a science teacher, but has since resigned.

She was found guilty by the General Teaching Council for England of unacceptable professional conduct.

David Bower, chairman of governors at the school, said: "Certain practices were not of the standard required and have therefore amounted to gross misconduct.

"The teacher would have been dismissed save for the fact that she decided to admit the offences and resign."
