Canterbury man arrested after brass stolen from church

A man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing brass from a church in Kent.

Thieves took three candlesticks, a cross, a church plate, a book rest and five vases from St Mary's Church, in Bishopsbourne, between 27 and 29 December.

Two of the candlesticks and the 2ft (60cm) high altar cross were covered in semi-precious stones.

The man, 50, from Canterbury, was arrested on Tuesday evening and has been bailed until 26 January.
